S-Suite vs C-Suite…Sweet!

“CSuite is a widely-used slang term used to collectively refer to a corporation’s most important senior executives. CSuite gets its name because top senior executives’ titles tend to start with the letter C, for chief, as in chief executive officer, chief operating officer and chief information officer.”   –Investopedia.com

Harvard Business Review goes on to say that there is one strikingly consistent finding within C-suite executives: “Once people reach the C-suite, technical and functional expertise matters less than leadership skills and a strong grasp of business fundamentals.”  I would argue that this, in essence, says that leadership really isn’t the ‘most important’ after all!  They are not the real ‘doers’ of the organization.  So, who is?

I would like Aspire to start a new slang term, “S-Suite.”  This term would be used to collectively refer to one of our most valuable human assets–Support Staff!  The term S-Suite includes those professionals in positions that support the mission, the staff, the consumers, and the operations all at the same time!  The S-Suite would include our Administrative Professionals, such as Front Desk, AR, AP, Med Records, Payee and Housing Departments. It would also include Facility/Maintenance staff, HR, Marketing, Transportation, IT, Non-Clinical DMS and any other non-direct service staff I have unintentionally failed to mention.  

S-Suite professionals are the technical and functional experts of our business operations.  They represent one-third of our employees!  This means that for every two clinical staff, there is a support staff there aiding the clinical service in some capacity.  

While S-Suite staff are outnumbered by clinical staff, they are JUST AS important!  They are there in the morning to open up shop and there in the evening to clean it all up.  They answer our phones, sort our mail, organize our schedules, and interface with vendors, payers and regulatory bodies on our behalf all day long. They brighten our offices with their smiles, greet consumers, and answer all our questions, even if it is the same question over and over and over. They trouble-shoot, fix mistakes, prevent problems and turn around and do it again the next day. They are looking out for our best interests and our sustainability for the future.

Thank you, S-Suite, for making it look easy, for keeping the lights on and the welcome sign lit. We could NOT operate a single moment without YOU. Thank you for supporting this entire, growing enterprise.  You are the PILLARS* of Aspire! I encourage everyone to find someone in the S-Suite and give them an extra dose of sweetness today!
